WFEO participation at the UN HLPF Forum 2019

The 2019 edition of the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2019) under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) focused on “Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”.

The session took place from 9 to 15 July 2019 in New York, at the UN Headquarters, and conducted in-depth reviews of five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), SDG 10 (reduced inequalities), SDG 13 (climate action), and SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions). It also reviewed SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals), which is reviewed each year.

The World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO) was an active participant at the Forum. Over a two-week period, government leaders and policy makers discussed the progress being made to advance the 2030 Agenda. 47 nations provided Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) to their progress and there was a forum to discuss the outcomes of the Science technology and Innovation (STI) Forum that was held at the UN Headquarters in May 2019.
