WFEO participates in the 43rd Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization

WFEO was invited to attend the 43rd Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conference held from 1st to 7 July 2023, at the FAO headquarters, in Rome.

Dr. Ania Lopez, WFEO National Member Representative for Italy (National council Italian engineers, CNI) at the WFEO Executive Council, represented the federation.
 

Dr. Ania Lopez is coordinating a joint award project between WFEO and FAO, as Chair of the WFEO Award Committee.
 
The FAO General Conference consisted of seven intense days of work, full of presentations, scientific-technical reports, suggestions, testimonies, where the member countries with their delegates discussed climate change, water cycle, green technology, zero hunger, innovation, and all issues related to engineering in the achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
 

Re-election Dr.QU Dongyu, FAO Director-General, his new term will run from 1st August 2023 to 31 July 2027.
 
2nd July marked a very important moment: the re-election of FAO Director-General Dr. QU Dongyu, who was the only candidate in the election of the top position of FAO.
 

Dr. Ania Lopez is coordinating a joint award project between WFEO and FAO, as Chair of the WFEO Award Committee.

 
A delegation from WFEO consisting of WFEO President Prof Jose Vieira, Immediate Past President Prof. Gong Ke, President Elect Mr. Mustafa Shehu, WFEO Executive Council National Member Representative Dr. Ania Lopez and WFEO Executive Director Mr. Jacques de Mereuil, met Dr. QU Dongyu in Rome in October 2022 to discuss potential collaboration between both organizations.

This collaboration progressed during the General Conference with an important meeting with the Scientific Director of FAO Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, with whom WFEO has been working for some months on a large collaborative project.

Both organizations are working towards the signing of a Letter of Intent in October 2023 in Rome, during the week of the FAO World Food Forum which will focus on the theme of climate change.

Attendance at the FAO General Conference is the beginning of a long collaboration between WFEO and FAO, two strategic organizations to advance specific projects in the fight against climate change especially in relation to agriculture, food production and engineering.
