WFEO co-hosts side event with International Science Council at UN STI Forum

WFEO and the International Science Council (ISC), as Co-Chairs of the UN Science and Technological Community Major Group, co-organised and hosted a side event at the UN STI Forum on 3rd May 2023: Science Technology, Innovation, and Engineering Solutions for the SDGs: Theory, Practice and Application.

This is the first time that the Science and Technological Community Major Group at the UN have had the opportunity to host a special event at the UN STI Forum.

The event brought together the Major Group of Stakeholders to discuss how science, technology, innovation and engineering have a critical role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event covered three topics – groundwater engineering, sustainable infrastructure and nature-based solutions for green infrastructure. The session was Chaired by WFEO UN Relations Committee Chair, Dr K.N. Gunalan, Senior Vice President of AECOM and co-chair of the Science and Technological Community Major Group at the UN.

This is the first time that the UN Science and Technological Community Major Group has hosted an event at the UN STI Forum. This is expected to be an annual event and will be an important opportunity for the role of engineers in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals to be given specific visibility.
