The 43rd UN-Water meeting will be held in Rome on March 24–25 and will focus on advancing the UN System‑wide Strategy for Water and Sanitation and preparing for the 2026 UN Water Conference. The 2026 United Nations Water Conference, co-hosted by the United Arab Emirates and Senegal, and convened in UAE 2-4 December 2026, will bring this spirit of solidarity to life and help to build a water-secure future for all.

Sessions will open with updates on the implementation of decisions from the previous meeting and then move through the Strategy’s five entry points.

Discussions will cover coordinated UN actions on water and sanitation, including unified messaging, development of the SDG 6 Synthesis Report 2026, and preparations for World Water Day and World Toilet Day campaigns through 2028. Members will decide on establishing the Task Force for World Water Day 2027 and selecting themes for 2028 campaigns.

The meeting will also address country‑level support through joint programming, seed funding processes, and the SDG 6 Capacity Development Initiative. Further sessions will examine integration of water issues across UN conventions, evidence generation, innovation accelerators, and contributions to the global SDG 6 acceleration framework.

On the second day, participants will receive briefings on the 2026 UN Water Conference, including preparatory processes, outcomes from the Dakar High‑Level Meeting, and planned Interactive Dialogues.

The agenda concludes with updates on upcoming international water events and a decision on the host of the 44th UN‑Water Meeting.
