Chair of the WFEO Women in Engineering Committee Delivers Statement on Inclusive Clean Energy Solutions at the United Nations STI Forum

At the 2026 United Nations STI Forum, WFEO was represented in the thematic session “Powering sustainable development through clean energy technologies for affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all,” held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 7 May 2026.

Ing. Dr. Enyonam Kpekpena, Vice President and Chair of the WFEO Committee for Women in Engineering, delivered a statement on behalf of the Federation.

Her intervention emphasized the central role of engineering in achieving SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), highlighting the importance of inclusive and context-responsive engineering systems in advancing the global energy transition. She underscored that while technological innovation is accelerating energy transformation, equitable access and effective implementation depend on strengthening engineering capacity and integrating diverse perspectives into energy system design.

The statement also highlighted the importance of increasing the participation of women in engineering and energy systems, noting their key role in energy use, adoption, and sustainability outcomes, while remaining underrepresented in the sector.

WFEO reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive, ethical, and sustainable engineering practice, and to supporting Member States in strengthening engineering capacity to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
