WFEO National Member Philippine Technological Council organized the 5th Philippine Engineering Summit

The 5th Philippine Engineering Summit (PhES 5.0), organized by the Philippine Technological Council, with the theme: “Engineering a Better Future: Creating Sustainable and Inclusive Communities” was held on 25 and 26 August 2023 at the Iloilo Convention Center, Iloilo City.

Former WFEO President Dr Marlene Kanga AO made a presentation at the session on UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focused on the work of UN agencies and engineers in advancing the UN SDGs in South East Asia.

The SDGs are developed to meet the challenge of sustainable development that leaves no one behind. This a structured and globally recognized forward thinking approach to address pressing world challenges and is a shared blueprint for peace, prosperity, and sustainability for people and the planet.
The conference was particularly relevant to young engineers who are concerned about their future and who will need to work to make the changes required to advance the UN SDGs.

The session moderator was Engr. Romulo A. Agatep, Country Registrar, Philippine Technological Council.

Plenary Speakers were:

  • Mr Jean Todt, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety,
  • Mr Oscar Leonel Marenco Ruiz, Country Manager, United Nations Office for Project Services Philippines,
  • Dr Marlene Kanga AO, former President, World Federation of Engineering Organizations.

 
The session demonstrated the need for an integrated approach to development especially for engineers engaged in delivering infrastructure projects in the Philippines. The session demonstrated significant interest from young engineers and the need for continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
