9th Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for the SDGs Forum 2024

The 9th annual Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs (STI Forum) will be held from 9 and 10 May 2024, with side events from 8 to 10 May, at the UN Headquarteers in New-York.

The theme of the STI Forum 2024 is: “Science, technology and innovation for reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”.

As in previous years, the theme of the STI Forum will be closely aligned with that of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), to be held from Monday, 8 July, to Wednesday, 17 July 2024, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), but will have an exclusive focus on the role and contributions of science, technology and innovation to sustainable development.

Within the STI Forum, the Science and Technological Community Major Group (co-chaired by WFEO and ISC) will organise the in-person side event “Better leveraging Science, Technology, Innovation and Engineering for accelerating progress on the Sustainable Development Goals” on 9 May at 1:15 PM at the TRI Room.

This session will explore strategies for better leveraging STI across all levels while harnessing its transformative potential. This includes the need for closer collaboration between the scientific, engineering, and technological communities and all stakeholders including societal actors and policy-makers, to co-design science-based solutions to address context-specific sustainability challenges.

The session will also highlight examples of impactful initiatives that can accelerate achievement while enabling synergies and multiple co-benefits across the different goals under review this year – SDG 1, 2, 13, 16, and 17.
