WEC2019 – WFEO Plenary on Engineering Education


The World Engineers Convention 2019, featured a successful plenary session on engineering education which was hosted by the World Federation of Engineering Organisations.

The session was held on 21 November 2019 at the Melbourne Convention Centre and was called: “World Engineering Education – the paradigm shift to engineer the future”

The session was moderated by Dr Marlene Kanga, WFEO President.

UNESCO participated via Dr Peggy Oti-Boateng, Director Capacity Building Section, Natural Sciences Sector, UNESCO, who provided a brief message by video on the commitment to work with WFEO and the International Engineering Alliance (IEA) and other international engineering partners to review the global attributes for engineering education to ensure that they meet the future needs of society for sustainable development and to build capacity for more engineers with the right skills where they are needed most, in Asia, Latin America and Africa.

The Declaration between WFEO, UNESCO and International Engineering Alliance on need to work together for internationally recognised engineering education standards and capacity building in engineering education, was signed at the end of the session, representing a significant legacy moment for the World Engineers Convention.
