ASCE India Section Conference: Vision-2050: Climate Resilient, Sustainable, Equitable and Inclusive Infrastructure

The American Society of Civil Engineers-India Section (ASCE-IS) is organizing the international virtual conference “Vision-2050: Climate Resilient, Sustainable, Equitable and Inclusive Infrastructure” ahead of the G20 summit, on Friday 8 September 2023.

The registration link is available in this page.

Message from Dr. K N Gunalan, chair of WFEO UN Relations Committee (WURC) and past president of ASCE.

Message from Dr. Rosa Galvez, Canadian Senator, member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and Engineers Without Borders.

There is an immediate need to expedite and transform how infrastructure is envisioned, planned, financed, engineered and designed to higher standards in response to the climate crisis; and explore how those engaged with policy, design, regulation, and procurement can protect and improve the lives of poor, marginalized, and vulnerable populations to ensure that we leave no one behind.

Different pathways are being elevated to this end, and through this event, the priority is to leverage established engineering societies in partnership with procurement, research & development, and technology, to influence planning, designing, constructing, operation, maintenance, and retrofitting of all infrastructure in all geographies. Engineers recognize their ethical responsibility to build safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure. Engineers stand ready to work in concert with the G20 leaders and look forward to fostering a meaningful and productive relationship with all infrastructure stakeholders.

The Conference will highlight:

  • how engineering standards, regulations and infrastructure procurement practices can de-risk projects, attract more funding, be used to reduce embodied carbon, promote life cycle cost comparisons, protect and restore the environment; and
  • prioritization of strategies and actions to be taken collaboratively or in coordination/synchronization.

The conference will recommend a roadmap for policies, standards, and programs to attract financing to build quality infrastructure that leaves no one behind, ensuring that social, economic, environmental, and institutional resiliency and sustainability are appropriately integrated to build better before disasters strike. The Conference is intended to provide direction on how financial institutions and MDBs through policy/regulatory work with government, and their own procurement policies and practices can ensure “quality infrastructure” for climate action, specifically through engagement with professional bodies in the infrastructure sectors.

The conference would bring world leaders, experts and technician together.

The conference is supported by:

  • Asian Development Bank (ADB),
  • World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) representing 30 million members,
  • Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI),
  • Asian Civil Engineering Coordinating Council (ACECC) representing 17 member engineering societies.

Some of the world experts as key note speakers are:

  • Secretary John Kerry-USA,
  • Senator Dr. Rosa Galvez-Canada,
  • Jeff Taylor- Philippines-Chief Procurement OfficerAsian Development Bank.

Invited Guests of Honor include:

  • Honorable President Joseph BidenUSA,
