Eng Jorge Spitalnik
Eng. Jorge Spitalnik is the President of WFEO. He is a graduate Industrial Engineer from the University of Uruguay, Mechanical Engineer from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Diploma of the Imperial College in Nuclear Power from the University of London and Génie Atomique Engineer from the University of Paris.
He is holding many positions such as Consultant on Energy Planning, Thermal and Nuclear Power Generation Project Design, and Nuclear Safety Culture. His Main Professional Specialties are Power Plant Design, Energy Planning and Nuclear Power Technology.
He has been Assistant Professor of Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, Faculty of Engineering, University of Uruguay from 1961 to 1964, Professional Officer, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for Nuclear Power Technology and Economic Studies from 1964 to 1968, Professor, Nuclear Reactor Physics and Nuclear Power Generation, and Director, Nuclear Research Center Project, University of Uruguay from 1969 to 1973, Project management functions at Brazilian Nuclear Technology Company (CBTN), NUCLEBRÁS, NUCLEN and ELETRONUCLEAR of Brazil from 1973 to 2000, Director of UNDP/BRAZIL Project on Nuclear Manpower Qualification and Training from 1977 to 1982, IAEA Consultant for Nuclear Project Management, Operational Safety Services and Nuclear Safety Culture from 1997 to 2003, Advisor to the President at Nuclear Industries of Brazil (INB) and ELETRONUCLEAR from 2001 to 2005 and WFEO Delegate at the U.N. Commission of Sustainable Development since 2006.
He is currently Member of FEBRAE Executive Council, Chair of the WFEO-UN Relations Committee, Member of the Board of Directors of the American Nuclear Society, Member of the Executive Committee of the Latin American Section of the American Nuclear Society (LAS/ANS), and Executive Director of UPADI.
He is the author of more than 135 publications in specialized Journals, Technical Meeting Proceedings, Conferences and Reports on Energy generation, Nuclear energy, Energy economics, and Education and professional qualification.
He is a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society, Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), U.K., Member of the Pan American Academy of Engineers (API), Member of the International Nuclear Energy Academy (INEA). He was a Member of the Editorial Advisory Panel of “Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers – Energy”, U.K and Vice-President of UPADI for the Southern Cone-Brazil Region.
In 2017, he has been appointed as an Advisory Board member of the International Centre for Engineering Education (ICEE), which is a new Category II Centre under the auspices of UNESCO.
He holds several awards, including INSC – “Global Award” (2006); LAS/ANS – Award on “Publication of the Year” (1996, 1998 and 2008), Award on “Personality of the Year for Nuclear Energy Development in Latin America” (2005), ANS – Certificate of Recognition to the President of the Meeting of the Americas (1998), Presidential Certificate of Appreciation (2000) and Presidential Citation (2003).
In June 2017, at the UPADI technical and consultative council meetings in Costa Rica, he has been appointed Honorary Member of the Association of Engineers of the Uruguay (AIU).
