The WFEO Young Engineers/Future Leaders Committee is proud to host a competition for the best ideas and projects from young engineers around the world, who are progressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals through engineering.
Young engineers, under 35 by 15 July 2018, are invited to submit an article on their ideas or projects that they are currently working on and which help achieving sustainable development.
We encourage young engineering leaders to submit papers and to present their ideas and perspectives on one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals take an integrated approach for future development, combining progress in economic prosperity, social inclusion and environmental sustainability. The implementation of these goals is a key objective of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations.
We welcome high-quality papers addressing one of the following 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The presentation can either be based on a paper (preferably with graphics, schemes or photos illustrating the concept or project) up to 1000 words or on an e-poster presentation (only to be made through pdf or ppt document).
The presentation must cover one of the following Sustainable Development Goals:
The proposals will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Impact of the project on achieving one or more of the targets underlying the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
2. The educational and professional background of the author, who should be below 35 years at 31 May 2018, in the project. Engineers who have made significant contributions through innovative ideas and/or leadership will be very well regarded.
3. The level of innovation in addressing the underlying problem and how a solution has been developed
4. The quality of the presentation and the communication of the important and relevant issues of the project in terms of language, illustrations and photographs
The judging panel will comprise a representative of the Young Engineers Future Leaders Committee and two representatives from the WFEO Executive Board. The decision of the judges will be final and will be announced by 31 July 2018.
The recognition of best proposals
The best submissions (up to 10) will be published in a booklet, which will be released during the Global Engineering Congress (GEC2018) in London on 22 October 2018. WFEO is co-hosting this Congress with the Institution of Civil Engineers (U.K.) as part of its 50th Anniversary celebrations and the ICE 200 Years celebrations.
The author of the best proposal will be invited to present their ideas during the GEC2018 conference in UK London on 22 October 2018. Economy air fares and two nights’ accommodation in London will be provided to enable attendance at this session, proudly sponsored by the Kuwait Society of Engineers
All details about the GEC2018 conference can be found here
Deadline for submitting paper is 15 July 2018 to allow for adequate time to compile submitted works and format them for the booklet.
We look forward to receiving your submissions soon! Please don’t hesitate to contact secretariat[at]wfeo.org if you have any question.
PLEASE share widely with your networks of young scientists, engineers, and practitioners who may be interested in contributing to the UN SDGs.
