The World Water Development Report 2017

The World Water Development Report 2017

The World Water Day 2017 focuses on wastewater and ways to reduce and reuse it as over 80% of all the wastewater from our homes, cities, industry and agriculture flows back to nature polluting the environment and losing valuable nutrients and other recoverable materials.

The collection and treatment of wastewater has to be constantly improved and its reuse must be kept safe.

In this regard, we have to keep in mind the main role of engineering in sustainable water management.

As water resources are unevenly distributed in many parts of the world, engineering solutions to address water management challenges play significant roles in areas such as access to clean water and sanitation, providing water for irrigation, offering protection against floods, allowing power generation, etc.

Today, the World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) launched the 2017 edition of the World Water Development Report: “Wastewater, The Untapped Resource”. The main launch of the UN flagship review on the state of the world’s freshwater resources is taking place during the pivot event for World Water Day celebrations.
