WFEO IEA MoU

Today, engineers often study and work on projects around the globe.

Mutual recognition of engineering qualifications and competence assessments is increasingly important for the public good. Moreover, lack of such recognition is a barrier to development for engineers and nations.

In December 2015, the International Engineering Alliance and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding to:

  • Raise awareness of the importance of accreditation.
  • Build commitment for the development of national bodies.
  • Build capacity of national bodies to prepare for IEA mentoring.
  • Support national bodies to join the IEA accords and agreements.

WFEO and the IEA will be launching a joint information an advocacy campaign and will raise funds together for joint capacity building work.

Marwan Abdelhamid, President of WFEO, praised this initiative saying:

“This is an exciting development for the global engineering profession that brings together WFEO’s vital role in networking and capacity building and the IEA’s expertise in accreditation and competence assessment. We are working now to deliver our joint actions after this very positive first step.”
